EMI shielding materials create barrier for electromagnetic interference and also protect electronic devices from corrosion and oxidation. EMI can cause temporary disorders, system failure, and data losses. EMI shielding materials keeps devices safe from the damage triggered by the EMI. Fast development of wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi and GPS along with the increase in the sources generating the electromagnetic fields is expected to drive the EMI shielding materials market growth in the near future. 

By component, conductive coatings and paints segment accounted for the largest share of more than 37% in 2017. Conductive paints and coatings is ideal for EMI shielding on non-metal surfaces. Materials such as silver, copper, gold, aluminum, nickel, silver-coated copper, and other materials are used as fillers in conductive coatings and paints. Different coating techniques used for metalizing the non-metal surfaces are foil laminates & tapes ion plating, and vacuum metallization amongst others.

Conductive shield created by the conductive coating and paints prevents electrical circuitry damage or hindrance to operations through EMI radiations. Laminates segment is anticipated to record high growth in the near future due to advantages such as light weight, cost effectiveness and ease of application. The most commonly used metals in EMI shielding include copper, aluminum, copper alloy 770 and pre-tin plated steel.

Copper is the most widely used and reliable metal used in EMI shielding since it is extremely efficient in attenuating electrical and magnetic waves. The others segment include EMI shielding materials such as EMI shielding filters and gaskets. Increasing industrial applications of EMI shielding filters coupled with increasing demand for centralized air conditioning in warehouses and commercial infrastructure are some of the major aspects fueling the development of others segment in the global market for EMI shielding materials.

Based on application in 2017, EMI shielding materials in automotive segment held the largest share.
