Yearly recruitment notices keep paid exam preparation alive
The India SSC and banking exam coaching market was valued at USD 700.0 million in 2025 and is projected to increase from USD 740.0 million in 2026 to USD 1.25 billion by 2035, registering a CAGR of 6.00% during 2026–2035. Demand comes from graduates and school leavers who pay for classroom batches, video courses and mock tests for Staff Selection Commission, bank, railway and state commission recruitment. The pool is large, since 3,483,411 people applied for SSC CGL posts in 2024, according to Career Power. North India held the largest regional share, 36.0% in 2025, because Uttar Pradesh alone supplies a very large candidate base. Northeast India is the fastest-growing region at 6.86% a year, as Guwahati gains new classroom batches from a small base. The commercial picture also changed in July 2025, when Testbook priced a 12-month pass covering over 300 government exams at Rs 1,099. Such pricing keeps widening access while it presses on classroom margins.
Which government exam preparation fees count toward this total?
The market counts fees paid to institutes and platforms for Staff Selection Commission, bank, railway and state public service commission recruitment exams, delivered through online test series, video courses and offline classes. Candidates usually begin with a low-priced test pass and add a course or classroom batch as an exam date approaches.
The estimate excludes exam application fees, printed books sold separately, rent and travel for candidates who move to a coaching city, and free government programs. It also excludes UPSC civil services, engineering and medical entrance coaching. The value chain runs from faculty and question banks through apps and centers to candidates.

India SSC And Banking Exam Coaching Market Insights

SSC courses lead as test series and railway batches gain
SSC courses lead while railway batches grow fastest
Based on exam, the market is categorized into SSC CGL/CHSL, IBPS/SBI, RRB and state PSC. SSC CGL/CHSL led with 34.0% of 2025 value because graduates buy long courses for a multi-tier exam, and Career Power counted 2,815,445 applicants for 14,582 CGL posts in 2025. RRB grows fastest at 6.64% a year as a government release of June 12, 2026 said quarterly vacancy notices under the annual calendar help candidates plan. State commission batches share methods with civil services preparation, although protests in Prayagraj in November 2024 showed how quickly state exam schedules can change.
Classrooms hold value as online test series grow fastest
Based on mode, the market is categorized into online test series, video courses and offline. Offline teaching led with 52.0% of 2025 value because classroom fees sit far above app prices, against the Rs 449 PhysicsWallah annual test pass, although Adda247 showed its Rs 19,999 Guwahati batch with a full discount, so realized classroom fees remain a Credence Research estimate. Online Test Series grows fastest at 7.47% a year as Testbook now lists test series for more than 670 exams on its site. Video courses sit between the two, and Oliveboard charges Rs 3,499 for an English banking batch with over 350 live sessions running to March 2027.
Hindi batches lead as regional courses gain fastest
Based on language, the market is categorized into Hindi, English and regional. Hindi batches led with 54.0% of 2025 value because the Hindi belt supplies the largest candidate pools, and Careers360 listed 2,346 of 13,533 IBPS clerk posts in 2025 for Uttar Pradesh alone. Regional courses grow fastest at 7.16% a year as the personnel department approved SSC MTS and CHSL papers in 13 regional languages in April 2023, according to Business Standard. English keeps a solid base among officer-level bank candidates, as the Rs 3,499 Oliveboard foundation batch for SBI and IBPS exams is taught in English.

Hiring cycles, cheap data and local languages lift spending
SSC and bank hiring cycles sustain yearly enrollments
SSC and bank recruitment cycles create repeat exam coaching purchases because each annual notice restarts preparation for millions of candidates. Career Power counted 3,483,411 applicants for 18,236 SSC CGL posts in 2024 and 2,815,445 for 14,582 posts in 2025, while Careers360 reported 12,256 posts in the notice of May 21, 2026. Banking adds a second calendar, since public sector banks planned about 50,000 hires in fiscal 2026, including about 21,000 officers, according to a PTI report. Careers360 also reported in October 2025 that IBPS raised its clerk intake to 13,533 from 10,277. In the Credence Research model this adds about 2.28 percentage points to annual growth to 2035, and SSC CGL/CHSL courses take the largest portion of that spending.
Cheap mobile mock tests widen tier-2 and tier-3 access
Affordable mobile mock tests widen access in smaller towns because a phone now replaces both a classroom and a printed test book. The TRAI yearly performance report shows 440.87 million rural internet subscribers at March 2026, with wireless use at 25.51 GB a month per subscriber and average realization of Rs 8.02 per GB, down 10.59% in a year. Rural internet density still sits at 48.31 per 100 people, so considerable room remains. Product pricing has followed, as PhysicsWallah lists a 12-month government exams test pass at Rs 449 and Testbook charged Rs 329 a quarter in July 2025. In the Credence Research model this adds about 1.68 percentage points to annual growth to 2035, and Online Test Series gain the most.

Regional-language bundles attract first-time candidates
Regional-language course bundles attract first-time candidates because the exams themselves now accept those languages. The personnel department approved SSC MTS and CHSL papers in 13 regional languages in April 2023, on top of Hindi and English, according to Business Standard. A government release of June 12, 2026 said railway tests now run in up to 15 languages across many cities and shifts. Providers have moved accordingly, as YourStory reported in June 2025 that Adda247 offers exam content in 12 regional languages plus English, while Testbook listed nine languages for its July 2025 Super Pass. In the Credence Research model this adds about 1.08 percentage points to annual growth to 2035, which supports 7.16% a year for Regional batches.
Job market gaps and a pay review keep posts attractive
A tight entry-level job market and a fresh pay review keep government posts attractive, which sustains spending on preparation even when seats shrink. A government release of March 27, 2026 put 2025 unemployment among people aged 15 to 29 at 9.9%, while the MoSPI press note of Feb. 10, 2026 showed urban unemployment for people aged 15 and above at 6.7% in the last quarter of 2025. The Cabinet approved terms of reference for the 8th Central Pay Commission in October 2025, with recommendations due within 18 months, according to the Prime Minister's Office. Railway posts show the resulting scale of interest, since 10,822,423 people applied for 32,438 Level 1 jobs, according to Adda247.
Online brands open classrooms as all-exam passes spread
Shift of online exam brands into city classrooms
Brands that grew through apps are moving into classrooms, because many candidates still want fixed schedules and in-person doubt sessions. Adda247 announced on Dec. 30, 2025 that it would open offline branches in Kanpur, Jaipur, Guwahati, Muzaffarpur, Prayagraj and Ahmedabad for bank, SSC, railway and state exams. PhysicsWallah runs a Govt Exam Wallah center on Boring Road in Patna, covering SSC, banking, railway and Bihar Police exams. YourStory reported in June 2025 that Adda247 also planned two centers of excellence focused on banking and artificial intelligence. This shift shows the limits of pure e-learning models for this candidate base, and it helps Offline teaching retain 52.0% of 2025 value.
Rise of low-priced passes covering hundreds of exams
Subscriptions are moving from single-exam packs toward passes covering many exams, because candidates often sit SSC, bank and railway tests in the same year. PhysicsWallah lists more than 9,000 tests across 370 series and over 100 exams in its government exams pass. Testbook says on its site that candidates have attempted over 242 crore tests, and its Super Pass announced in July 2025 ran from a Rs 5 trial to Rs 1,499 for 18 months. These bundles sit within a wider test preparation shift toward subscription pricing. As a result, Online Test Series grow at 7.47% a year in the Credence Research model, although revenue per buyer stays low.

Opportunity in state-funded residential exam batches
State programs offer an opening, because governments are funding SSC, bank and railway preparation and need outside delivery capacity. The Naan Mudhalvan portal in Tamil Nadu lists residential coaching for 1,000 students at Chennai, Salem and Srivilliputhur. DT Next reported in July 2025 that the state skill corporation would set up centers in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore with private partners, each holding 300 students for six months in four 60-seat classrooms with a 100-seat auditorium. Uttar Pradesh also lists SSC and banking under its free Abhyudaya scheme, with study material and mock tests, according to Vikaspedia. Providers with regional faculty and test engines could therefore win contracts, although public budgets would limit the fee per student.
Opening in banking job courses for unselected candidates
Placement courses are an opening, because most paying candidates never win a government post and still need a job after preparing. Career Power worked out about 193 applicants per seat for SSC CGL 2025, which leaves a very large group looking for alternatives. YourStory reported in June 2025 that Adda Education had spent over Rs 30 crore on skilling in six months, with Career247 cohorts of 100 to 200 learners and two months of in-person training before placement in private banks. These courses can also feed online recruitment channels for bank sales roles. Providers already hold the student relationship, so they can offer such programs at a lower acquisition cost than new entrants.
Exam disruptions, fewer posts and price cuts test providers
Exam disruptions shake candidate confidence
Disrupted exams delay course completion and shake confidence in paid preparation. Uttar Pradesh cancelled a police constable exam held on Feb. 17 and 18, 2024, which had drawn over 4.8 million candidates, according to the Free Press Journal. In 2025, the SSC chairman admitted in August that the new exam agency appointed in July faced center allocation and technical problems. Providers must then extend batches without added fees, although the central law of February 2024 now sets penalties for organized cheating.
Fewer posts per notice narrow the value of courses
Shrinking post counts make each course harder to justify, particularly for repeat candidates. SSC CGL fell from 18,236 posts in 2024 to 14,582 in 2025 and 12,256 in 2026, according to Career Power and Careers360. Court action adds doubt, since the Supreme Court invalidated 25,753 West Bengal school appointments on April 3, 2025, according to Careers360. Candidates respond by spreading effort across more exams, so single-exam institutes are the most exposed and multi-exam bundles offer the practical response.
Price cuts and tax demands squeeze provider margins
Price competition limits what online providers can earn from each buyer, while classroom operators still carry rent and faculty costs. Testbook offered a Rs 5 five-day trial in July 2025, and PhysicsWallah sells an annual test pass for under Rs 500. The Coaching Federation of India asked the finance minister on Jan. 28, 2026 to cut goods and services tax on coaching to 5% or nil, according to StudyCafe. Smaller city institutes face the strongest squeeze, so many may need local faculty strengths or hybrid batches.
Advertising rules restrict results claims
Advertising rules have narrowed the claims that institutes can use to sell courses. The central government issued guidelines on Nov. 13, 2024 that bar claims such as 100% selection and require written consent after selection for candidate names and photos, according to Business Standard. The regulator had already issued 45 notices and fined 18 institutes Rs 54.60 lakh by then. Institutes with weak records face the highest risk, so providers need documented results and clear refund terms before they advertise.
North India leads while Northeast India grows fastest
| Region | Value, 2025 (USD million) | Share, 2025 | CAGR, 2026–2035 |
|---|---|---|---|
| North India | 252.0 | 36.0% | 5.66% |
| South India | 133.0 | 19.0% | 6.06% |
| West India | 126.0 | 18.0% | 5.96% |
| East India | 105.0 | 15.0% | 6.46% |
| Central India | 63.0 | 9.0% | 6.26% |
| Northeast India | 21.0 | 3.0% | 6.86% |
North India leads through Uttar Pradesh candidate pools
North India held 36.0% of 2025 value and grows at 5.66% a year, anchored by Uttar Pradesh. Careers360 listed 2,346 IBPS clerk posts for that state in 2025, more than any other state reviewed for this report, and one 2024 constable exam drew over 4.8 million candidates. Adda247 chose Kanpur, Prayagraj and Jaipur for three of its six planned offline branches. Scroll reported in November 2024 that Uttar Pradesh had planned to hold exams with over five lakh candidates in multiple shifts, which shows the scale of the state cohort.
South India pairs strong bank hiring with state programs
South India held 19.0% of 2025 value and grows at 6.06% a year, helped by large bank intakes and teaching in local languages. Careers360 listed 1,248 IBPS clerk posts for Karnataka and 1,161 for Tamil Nadu in 2025. Testbook lists Telugu, Tamil and Kannada among its Super Pass languages. However, the Naan Mudhalvan program offers residential preparation for 1,000 Tamil Nadu students, which limits private pricing for the lowest-income candidates and opens a partnership route for providers.

West India draws value from Maharashtra and Gujarat
West India held 18.0% of 2025 value and grows at 5.96% a year, with Maharashtra and Gujarat as its two main sources of paid demand. Careers360 listed 1,144 IBPS clerk posts for Maharashtra and 860 for Gujarat in 2025. Adda247 named Ahmedabad among its six planned offline branches in December 2025, while Testbook offers Marathi and Gujarati in its Super Pass. These local-language options should bring more candidates in smaller cities into paid courses through 2035.
East India grows on Bihar demand and new centers
East India held 15.0% of 2025 value and grows at 6.46% a year, as classrooms and apps reach a large Bihar cohort. Careers360 listed 748 IBPS clerk posts for Bihar in 2025, and TRAI put internet density there at 50.50 per 100 people, against 76.59 nationally. That gap keeps classrooms important, so the PhysicsWallah center in Patna and the planned Adda247 branch in Muzaffarpur matter. West Bengal adds uncertainty after the April 2025 school appointments ruling.
Central India rests on Madhya Pradesh state exam demand
Central India held 9.0% of 2025 value and grows at 6.26% a year, with Madhya Pradesh as the main source of paid demand. Careers360 listed 755 IBPS clerk posts for the state in 2025. State commission exams matter here, as about 2,000 candidates held an 89-hour protest in Indore that ended on Dec. 22, 2024, and they sought a 2025 notice for 700 state service posts, according to the Free Press Journal. Indore therefore remains a natural base for state exam batches in the zone.
Northeast India grows fastest from a small Guwahati base
Northeast India held 3.0% of 2025 value and grows at 6.86% a year, the fastest pace among the zones. Assam drew over 1.3 million candidates for 5,023 Grade IV posts in October 2024, according to Northeast Live, and Careers360 listed 373 IBPS clerk posts for the state in 2025. Adda247 has listed a Guwahati batch for bank, SSC and railway exams aimed at Assam and the Northeast. TRAI put internet density in the Assam service area at 65.47 per 100 people, so apps can reach most candidates.

Enforcement, new centers and notices marked 2024 to 2026

| In February 2024, Uttar Pradesh held a police constable exam for 60,244 posts that was later cancelled over paper leaks. | Completed; a retest followed in August 2024 for nearly 4.8 million candidates. |
| In November 2024, the central government issued guidelines against misleading coaching advertisements. | In force; the rules bar claims such as 100% selection. |
| In August 2025, the SSC chairman acknowledged exam problems after candidates protested in Delhi over the new exam agency. | Completed; special shifts and a later CGL date were promised. |
| In December 2025, Adda247 announced offline branches in six cities, including Guwahati and Prayagraj. | Announced; branches cover bank, SSC, railway and state exams. |
| In May 2026, SSC issued its CGL notice for 12,256 posts. | Open cycle; Tier-I was set for August and September 2026. |
Mobile test engines and live batches reshape preparation
- Mobile test engines deliver full-length and sectional practice at scale, as the PhysicsWallah government exams pass with more than 9,000 tests shows.
- Live and recorded batches let one faculty team serve many towns, as the Oliveboard banking batch with over 350 live sessions demonstrates.
- Low-bandwidth apps matter for candidates outside large cities, and Adda247 says its platform is designed to work even with low internet bandwidth.
- Multi-language content systems allow a single course to serve several states, which is why Testbook could list nine languages for its Super Pass in July 2025.

App platforms and city institutes compete on price and reach
Exam coaching competition in 2026 turns on price, exam coverage, language range and the faculty names that candidates follow on video. Adda247 combines a large app base with Career Power classrooms, and its company page claims more than 50 million students from tier-2 and tier-3 cities and 2 million premium enrollees. Testbook competes through broad coverage and subscription passes, listing test series for more than 670 exams. Oliveboard leans toward banking candidates with structured foundation batches, including an English course priced at Rs 3,499. PhysicsWallah competes with very low test pass pricing and a city center through Govt Exam Wallah. The wider education technology sector is also consolidating, as upGrad completed its purchase of Unacademy on Sept. 1, 2026, and Unacademy still lists a Hindi foundation batch for all bank exams. City institutes rely on in-person teaching, whereas national platforms compete on reach and price.

Value moves toward multi-exam bundles and local teaching
Credence Research's view is that exam coaching will reward providers that sell across exams and in local languages, rather than single-exam specialists. Candidates face falling post counts in some rounds, such as the 12,256 CGL posts in 2026, so most will hedge across SSC, bank and railway exams. That pattern favors low-priced passes first and paid courses at a later stage. Regional courses are the fastest-growing language group in the Credence Research model. Providers should treat disruption as an operating risk and plan free batch extensions, because recruitment dates can move with little notice.
Exam counts and listed fees anchor these estimates
The report uses 2025 as the base year and 2026–2035 as the forecast period. Market values come from the Credence Research model, and regional and segment splits are Credence Research estimates informed by candidate counts, post counts, listed prices and center locations. Sources include government releases, TRAI and MoSPI statistics, provider websites and named press reports. Buyer counts behind the estimates are assumptions, and no interviews or surveys were conducted for this edition of the report.
Spending climbs steadily as exam calendars stay regular
The market reaches USD 1.25 billion by 2035 at a 6.00% CAGR, and exam coaching should stay on a steady path because yearly recruitment notices continue to draw millions of applicants. Online Test Series and Regional courses should take a larger part of spending, while classrooms keep the largest portion of value through much of the period. Exam integrity remains the main swing factor for exam coaching, since cancellations can pause enrollment across a whole state. Railway calendars should bring steadier demand, and consolidation among national platforms is likely to continue as price competition limits smaller entrants.
